ABOUT IRCMS

FROM THE DIRECTOR

The International Research Center for Medical Sciences (IRCMS) was launched in Kumamoto University in 2014. IRCMS has a strong interest with the highest priority in developing a global collaboration. To raise international visibility, IRCMS is focusing on exchange of young scientists at the PhD graduate student and postdoctoral levels with partner institutes abroad.
Currently, the fundamental research in the areas of Stem Cell Research, Aging Research, Human Retrovirology and Cancer Research has begun, with plans to expand into the translational medicine.

Fortunately, Kumamoto University has several unique research institutes including the Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics (IMEG) covering stem cell biology research, the Center for AIDS Research, and the Institute of Resource Development and Analysis (IRDA) emphasizing transgenic and knockout mouse technologies.
IRCMS will collaborate with these research institutes as well as with the Faculty of Life Sciences and the University Hospital nearby. IRCMS will play a leading role in pioneering the globalization of medical sciences in Japan.

IRCMS is seeking new principal investigators at both junior and senior levels to complement our existing programs and contribute to ground-breaking discoveries in medical science field.
